Army Captain Martyred, Seven Terrorists Killed in Hangu Operation

A Pakistan Army captain lost his life while seven terrorists were killed in an intelligence-driven operation carried out by security forces in Hangu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on August 7. The operation targeted Fitna al-Khawarij militants, based on actionable intelligence about their presence in the area.

The military’s media wing stated that the security forces successfully engaged the militants’ hideout, resulting in the elimination of seven terrorists. Captain Hamza Akram, aged 27 and hailing from Narowal district, was leading his troops from the front during the fierce firefight and was martyred in the pursuit of the militants.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased terrorists, who had been involved in multiple attacks against security personnel and civilians. Following the engagement, a thorough sanitisation operation was conducted to neutralize any militants who might have remained in the vicinity.

In a reaffirmation of its commitment to counterterrorism, the military emphasized that security forces and law enforcement agencies will persist with nationwide operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign to eliminate foreign-backed terrorism.

Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Mastung district, security forces killed three militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan and detained 12 suspects during Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3. The operation covered approximately 68 square kilometers in the Kambela and Asimabad areas and involved extensive searches and clearance activities.

Two of the militants’ bodies were recovered, while four others, including key commander Shaukat Mama, sustained injuries. The forces also dismantled militant hideouts and removed flags associated with the group.

Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, following the Afghan Taliban’s takeover in 2021. A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies highlighted that these provinces accounted for nearly 96% of violence-related deaths during the second quarter of 2026.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported over 61% (475) of fatalities and 57% (151) of violent incidents nationwide, making it the most affected region. Balochistan followed with 34% (265) of deaths and 35% (94) of incidents, underscoring the concentration of militant activity in these two provinces.
