10 Militants Killed in South Waziristan Counterterror Operations

Security forces eliminated ten militants affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna-ul-Khawarij, during separate counterterrorism operations in northwestern Pakistan this week, the military’s media wing announced on Friday.

The initial encounter took place in South Waziristan district on Thursday, when TTP militants launched an attack on a security forces checkpost. The Pakistani forces responded swiftly and decisively, resulting in the deaths of eight militants during the exchange of fire.

Meanwhile, two additional militants were killed the same day in the Dir district of northwestern Pakistan. Security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the deceased militants, who were reportedly involved in terrorist activities in the region. The military confirmed that sanitisation operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining militant presence in the area.

In a significant development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for their effective operations in both districts. In a statement issued by his office, he emphasized that the malicious plans of elements promoting terrorism with Indian support will be thwarted at all costs.

Notably, the military also reported that 12 militants were killed in separate counterterror operations conducted in Balochistan’s Washuk and Mastung districts on August 5 and 6, further demonstrating ongoing efforts to combat militancy across the country.
