The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rainfall accompanied by wind and thunderstorms in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, and northeastern Balochistan on Tuesday. The department has issued alerts for isolated heavy to very heavy downpours that could lead to urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in susceptible areas.
Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist across southern Pakistan, including most districts of Sindh and Balochistan. Only isolated rain or thunderstorm activity is anticipated in Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, and surrounding regions.
The PMD further cautioned that heavy rains on Tuesday might flood low-lying zones in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, the Potohar plateau, Peshawar, and Nowshera. In addition, landslides may occur in vulnerable hilly areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla, and Abbottabad, as well as in Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir during this period.
In a significant development, the PMD warned that heavy precipitation could trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs across Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
Specifically, Islamabad and nearby areas are expected to experience partly cloudy skies with rain, wind, and thunderstorms, including isolated heavy showers. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is forecast to receive rain-wind/thundershowers with sporadic heavy falls in districts like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Waziristan.
Punjab is also likely to see rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Noorpur Thal. The southern districts of Punjab are expected to remain hot and humid.
Cloudy conditions with rain-wind/thundershowers and isolated heavy rainfall are also projected for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the previous 24 hours, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls were reported in scattered parts of Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir. Isolated rainfall was also recorded in Mirpurkhas and Barkhan. Faisalabad received the highest rainfall amounting to 77 millimeters, followed by Sialkot with 73mm, Bahawalpur with 64mm, Gujrat with 54mm, and Mandi Bahauddin with 49mm.
The highest daytime temperatures recorded on Monday were 45 degrees Celsius in Dalbandin, 44 degrees Celsius in Nokkundi, and 44 degrees Celsius in Sibbi.
