Pakistan Senate Unites in Strong Condemnation of Afghan Cross-Border Hostilities

In a decisive and unanimous move, Pakistan’s Senate on Friday strongly condemned the recent cross-border hostilities emanating from Afghanistan. The resolution, which was introduced by Senator Sherry Rehman and adopted in the presence of Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, labeled these aggressive acts as clear violations of international law and diplomatic protocols. The Senate’s firm stance underscores Islamabad’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and maintaining peace along its western frontier.

The resolution explicitly stated that any infringement on Pakistan’s territorial integrity or national security would be viewed as a direct challenge to the nation’s dignity and would be met with a resolute and proportionate response. This declaration reflects the growing concerns within Pakistan’s political and military leadership regarding the escalating tensions along the porous Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where recent weeks have witnessed a surge in hostile incidents.

Moreover, the Senate paid heartfelt tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies. These security personnel have remained vigilant and steadfast in defending the country’s borders against incursions and threats, often operating under challenging and volatile conditions. Their dedication continues to be a cornerstone of Pakistan’s national security strategy.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with Afghanistan, the Senate expressed deep regret over the immense economic, social, and security burdens the country has borne for over four decades. Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees, provided extensive humanitarian aid, facilitated numerous peace initiatives, and consistently advocated for Afghanistan’s stability on international platforms. These efforts, while noble, have come at a significant cost to Pakistan’s own development and internal security landscape.

Despite these contributions, the resolution highlighted a disappointing lack of reciprocal goodwill from Afghan authorities. It pointed to a troubling pattern of hostile rhetoric, repeated cross-border violations, and the continued presence of anti-Pakistan terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. Such actions have repeatedly undermined bilateral agreements and regional stability, exacerbating tensions between the two neighbors.

In response, the Senate demanded that the Taliban-led Afghan administration immediately halt all aggressive activities, prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorism or hostile operations against Pakistan, and fulfill its international obligations to ensure peaceful coexistence. This call for restraint and responsibility comes at a critical juncture, as the region grapples with complex security challenges that require cooperative solutions.

At the same time, the resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing constructive engagement with Afghanistan. It emphasized the country’s dedication to fostering regional peace and building mutually respectful relations based on trust and dialogue. However, the Senate also issued a stern warning that Pakistan’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness, nor its pursuit of stability be seen as an inability to respond decisively to threats.

Furthermore, the Senate urged the international community to take serious notice of the deteriorating security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. It called on global stakeholders to encourage Afghan authorities to adhere to international norms and prevent further destabilization that could have far-reaching consequences for the entire region.

In conclusion, the Senate stood united across political lines in defense of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It expressed full support for all necessary measures undertaken by the state to protect national honor and security. This resolution comes amid heightened border tensions, signaling a clear message that Pakistan remains vigilant and prepared to defend its borders against any form of aggression.
