Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on both government and private banks to significantly increase their financing for the Prime Minister Apna Ghar Scheme, emphasizing that affordable housing for ordinary citizens remains a top government priority.

During a review meeting on Tuesday assessing the progress of the housing initiative, the prime minister urged for accelerated implementation and stressed the importance of maximum support from financial institutions to ensure the scheme’s success.

He highlighted that the scheme is designed to assist low- and middle-income families in realizing their dream of homeownership. Additionally, he directed officials to develop a comprehensive strategy encompassing both vertical and horizontal housing projects under this initiative.

At the meeting, it was revealed that banks have approved financing totaling Rs204 billion for the Apna Ghar Scheme, with Rs27 billion already disbursed as loans to beneficiaries. The Ministry of Housing and the State Bank of Pakistan are conducting weekly progress reviews to monitor the scheme’s advancement.

Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Housing and Works Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with senior officials, participated in the meeting.
