In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities in Kohat have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the tragic murder of Dr. Mahwish. The case, which had gripped the local community since the incident occurred, was resolved following a meticulous and technology-driven investigation conducted under difficult security circumstances.

The fatal attack took place on the evening of February 22, 2026, at approximately 8:05 pm near Usman Mosque, situated close to KDA Hospital. official reports, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on Dr. Mahwish at the location, resulting in her immediate death. The swift response of police teams ensured that the crime scene was promptly secured, forensic evidence was collected, and a formal case was registered against unknown perpetrators.

Initial inquiries included statements from the victim’s husband, Muhammad Hasnain, a resident of KDA, who informed investigators that there was no known personal enmity or conflict involving his wife. Despite this, police pursued multiple investigative angles, employing modern forensic techniques and intelligence gathering to identify those responsible for the heinous crime.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the provincial government took immediate notice and demanded a comprehensive report on the progress of the investigation. Authorities emphasized the need for swift action and the arrest of those accountable. In response, District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi assembled specialized teams comprising senior police officials, including the SP City, SP Investigation, DSP Headquarters, and the SHO of KDA Police Station, to lead the inquiry.

These dedicated units carried out intelligence-based operations and raids across various locations, combining human intelligence with advanced technological tools to track down the suspects. Their efforts led to the recovery of the firearm used in the attack, as well as a motorcycle and a rickshaw believed to have been utilized by the accused during the commission of the crime.

Further investigation identified the two suspects as Hayat Gul and Saif Ali. They were located after coordinated efforts spanning multiple districts and were ultimately arrested from the Ghamkol No. 3 area. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the motive behind the murder was rooted in a verbal altercation between Hayat Gul and Dr. Mahwish, which tragically escalated into fatal violence.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with a focus on gathering robust evidence to ensure that the case is presented effectively in court. Police officials have expressed their commitment to submitting a strong, evidence-backed challan aimed at securing exemplary punishment for the culprits, sending a clear message that such acts of violence will not be tolerated.

This case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining security and delivering justice in complex situations. The successful arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of combining traditional policing with modern investigative techniques, reinforcing public confidence in the system’s ability to respond to serious crimes.
