RAWALPINDI: In a solemn ceremony marking the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who serves as both Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), alongside the chiefs of Pakistan’s naval and air forces, reiterated their steadfast commitment to the security and sovereignty of Pakistan. This reaffirmation came as a powerful reminder of the Armed Forces’ continuous vigilance and readiness to defend the nation against any form of aggression.

Operation Swift Retort, launched on February 27, 2019, was a decisive military response to unprovoked Indian airstrikes, which had escalated tensions along the Line of Control. The operation not only demonstrated Pakistan’s operational capabilities but also sent a clear message about the country’s resolve to protect its territorial integrity. The military leadership highlighted the professionalism, bravery, and sacrifices of the personnel involved, emphasizing that their actions played a crucial role in deterring further hostile moves and restoring a strategic balance in the region.

During the commemorative event, Field Marshal Munir, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of Air Staff, collectively paid tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces. They acknowledged the high level of training, discipline, and dedication that continues to underpin Pakistan’s defense posture. Their statements underscored the Armed Forces’ unwavering resolve not only to safeguard the nation but also to contribute to broader regional peace and stability.

In addition to reflecting on past achievements, the military leaders reaffirmed their preparedness to address emerging threats in an increasingly complex security environment. They stressed that Pakistan’s Armed Forces remain vigilant and equipped to respond promptly to any challenges, ensuring the safety of its citizens and the protection of national interests. This commitment extends beyond borders, as Pakistan continues to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability on the global stage.

Meanwhile, tensions along Pakistan’s western border escalated recently following unprovoked attacks by Afghan Taliban forces in multiple locations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In response, Pakistan launched a retaliatory operation named ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ on the night of February 26, 2026. The operation targeted Taliban positions in Kabul, Paktia, and Kandahar, aiming to neutralize threats and restore security along the border.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar reported significant casualties inflicted on the Afghan Taliban, with 133 militants killed and over 200 injured during the counteroffensive. He indicated that the operation was ongoing, and further casualties could be expected as Pakistani forces continue their efforts to secure the region. This development highlights the persistent challenges Pakistan faces on multiple fronts and the Armed Forces’ resolve to respond decisively to any hostile actions.

Overall, the anniversary of Operation Swift Retort serves as a poignant reminder of Pakistan’s military strength and the enduring dedication of its leadership to defend the nation. It also reflects the broader strategic environment in which Pakistan operates, marked by complex regional dynamics and the need for constant vigilance. The combined message from the Field Marshal and service chiefs is clear: Pakistan’s security apparatus remains robust, ready to confront any threat, and committed to fostering peace both within its borders and beyond.
