San Antonio Spurs Extend Winning Streak to 11 with Dominant Victory Over Nets

The San Antonio Spurs continued their impressive run in the NBA by clinching their 11th straight victory on Thursday night. They outplayed the Brooklyn Nets with a convincing 126-110 scoreline, moving closer to overtaking the Oklahoma City Thunder at the top of the Western Conference standings. This latest triumph highlights the Spurs’ growing momentum as they push deeper into the season.

Julian Champagnie emerged as the standout performer for San Antonio, leading the team with a game-high 26 points. Despite the spotlight often shining on Victor Wembanyama, the young French sensation had a relatively subdued night offensively, connecting on just three of nine field goal attempts. However, Wembanyama made up for it by converting all six of his free throws, finishing with a respectable 12 points. Beyond scoring, he contributed significantly on the defensive end and playmaking, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out five assists, recording two steals, and blocking two shots. His all-around impact was crucial in a balanced Spurs effort that saw seven players score in double digits.

Supporting Champagnie and Wembanyama, Stephon Castle added 18 points, while De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell each chipped in 14 points. The Spurs’ collective effort ensured they never trailed at any point during the game, demonstrating their cohesion and resilience. Their current winning streak is the longest the franchise has enjoyed since the 2015-16 season when they won 13 consecutive games. Coach Mitch Johnson praised his team’s versatility, noting, “It feels like players are finding different ways to win. That’s a sign of growth,” reflecting the Spurs’ evolving identity and adaptability on the court.

Meanwhile, in other NBA action, Kevin Durant led the Houston Rockets to a thrilling 113-108 comeback victory over the Orlando Magic. Durant exploded for a season-high 40 points, including 26 in the second half, helping Houston erase a daunting 19-point deficit during the third quarter. His clutch play included a key layup assisted by Alperen Sengun that gave the Rockets the lead for good with just over three minutes remaining. Durant then calmly sank four free throws down the stretch to seal the win. The 37-year-old two-time NBA champion also achieved a significant personal milestone by becoming the sixth player in league history to surpass 32,000 career points. Reflecting on this achievement, Durant expressed gratitude for the journey and the support he has received throughout his career, emphasizing his desire to continue competing at a high level.

In Phoenix, the Suns edged out the Los Angeles Lakers 113-110 in a nail-biting finish. Royce O’Neale hit a clutch three-pointer with only 1.7 seconds left on the clock, securing the victory for Phoenix. The Lakers’ superstar LeBron James had tied the game with a put-back basket just moments earlier, but the Lakers failed to capitalize on their final possession, marking their third consecutive loss. Grayson Allen led the Suns with 28 points, while the Lakers’ Luka Doncic delivered a remarkable 41-point performance despite the defeat.

Philadelphia witnessed a historic night as Tyrese Maxey shattered the 76ers’ franchise record for career three-pointers. Maxey drained five triples en route to 28 points and also contributed 11 assists in a 124-117 win over the Miami Heat. He surpassed Allen Iverson’s long-standing record of 885 three-pointers with his fourth three-pointer early in the first quarter and added another before the period ended, scoring 20 points in that opening frame alone. Joel Embiid supported the effort with 26 points and 11 rebounds. The Sixers built a strong halftime lead of 73-57 and managed to hold off a resilient Heat squad that repeatedly took brief leads before Philadelphia ultimately secured the victory.

Finally, Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel made NBA history by setting a new rookie record for the most three-pointers made in a single season. Knueppel drained eight three-pointers in the Hornets’ dominant 133-109 win over the Indiana Pacers. He broke the previous rookie record of 206, set by Sacramento’s Keegan Murray in the 2022-23 season, with his 207th three-pointer during the third quarter. Knueppel had already matched Murray’s record earlier in the game with his fifth three-pointer. His eight made threes also tied his personal best for a single game, underscoring his sharpshooting prowess and bright future in the league.
