Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has designated General Aamer Raza as the new Commander of the National Strategic Command. Prior to this appointment, Gen Raza served as the Chief of the General Staff of the Pakistan Army.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Gen Raza was elevated from the rank of Lieutenant General to Four-Star General and simultaneously assigned to this prestigious position. The PM extended his congratulations to General Aamer Raza, HI(M), SBt, wishing him success in fulfilling the significant duties associated with this role.
This appointment follows the enactment of the Pakistan Army, Air Force, and Navy (Amendment) Bills 2025, which introduced the new title. Under the same legislation, Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed Chief of Defence Forces.
The creation of the Commander National Strategic Command position came after the abolition of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) role, previously held by General Shamshad Mirza. the law, the Prime Minister selects the commander from serving Pakistan Army generals for a term of three years, based on recommendations from the Chief of the Army Staff-Chief of Defence Forces.
