In a firm and resolute stance, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have underscored the unwavering strength and preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces to counter any form of aggression. Speaking amid rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, both leaders made it clear that Pakistan remains committed to peace but will not hesitate to respond decisively to any threats against its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
President Zardari highlighted that Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability is steadfast, emphasizing that the country will not compromise on these fundamental principles. He warned that any misinterpretation of Pakistan’s peaceful intentions as a sign of weakness would be a grave mistake. The President portrayed the nation and its military as a united front, standing firm like an impenetrable wall to safeguard the country’s borders and national unity. He stressed that Pakistan’s armed forces possess comprehensive, timely, and decisive response capabilities, fully equipped to foil any hostile designs aimed at destabilizing the country.
Addressing the recent surge in cross-border tensions, President Zardari pointed to the ongoing challenges posed by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, which he described as ungrateful despite Pakistan’s past support. Over the last five years, the Taliban, through their affiliates in the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), have orchestrated numerous terrorist attacks within Pakistan, undermining peace and security. The President lamented that all diplomatic efforts, including those by friendly neighboring countries, to steer this group towards moderation have unfortunately failed. He noted that this criminal faction has now brazenly crossed international boundaries, directly challenging Pakistan’s sovereignty.
The President further revealed that Pakistan has consistently pursued diplomatic channels and sought international cooperation to address this threat, but these efforts have not yielded positive outcomes. He recalled issuing stern warnings to the Taliban regime following the tragic suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad on February 8, and reiterated the same firm message after another incident on February 22. President Zardari concluded by asserting that Pakistan is fully aware of the masterminds and supporters behind these violent acts, and warned that continued bloodshed will not go unanswered, signaling a strong resolve to hold all responsible parties accountable.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed the President’s sentiments, affirming that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully capable and prepared to neutralize any aggressive moves against the country. In response to unprovoked firing from Afghanistan targeting multiple locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Prime Minister reassured the nation that both the people and the military stand ready to defend Pakistan’s security, sovereignty, and territorial boundaries at all costs.
PM Shehbaz praised the leadership of Army Chief and Chief of Defence Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, highlighting the armed forces’ professionalism, advanced training, and strategic preparedness. He emphasized that the military’s dedication and national spirit are key factors enabling them to effectively manage any internal or external threats. The Prime Minister made it clear that Pakistan will not tolerate any compromise on its homeland’s defense and that every act of aggression will be met with a swift and decisive response.
Reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to peace, PM Shehbaz stressed that while the country seeks harmony in the region, it will firmly counter any attempts to undermine its sovereignty. He concluded by stating that the entire nation remains united, standing shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in safeguarding Pakistan’s territorial integrity and national security, sending a strong message of resilience and determination to both domestic and international audiences.
