Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met in Islamabad on Tuesday to address the recent tensions in the Gulf region. Both leaders underscored the importance of restraint, dialogue, and joint efforts to maintain peace and stability across the region.
During the discussions, PM Shehbaz expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in the Gulf and called on all parties to refrain from actions that might escalate instability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to fostering peace, highlighting Islamabad’s role as an impartial and sincere mediator committed to facilitating dialogue among the involved parties.
Shehbaz emphasized that diplomatic engagement remains crucial for overcoming regional challenges and reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to contribute to enduring peace in the area.
In response, Interior Minister Momeni extended his gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed the good wishes of Iran’s leadership. He commended the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, while also acknowledging Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s significant role in advancing dialogue and regional stability.
Momeni highlighted Pakistan’s leadership in the successful signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and expressed appreciation for PM Shehbaz’s attendance at the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, reflecting the close ties between the two nations.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and other senior officials, underscoring the high-level commitment to regional peace and cooperation.
