Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived back in Islamabad on Saturday following a productive two-day official visit to China. The visit underscored Pakistan’s dedication to advancing international partnerships in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), a sector witnessing rapid global growth and innovation.

During his stay in Beijing, Ishaq Dar engaged in high-level discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. These talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring avenues for collaboration in emerging technologies, particularly AI. In a significant development, the two leaders formalized their cooperation by signing an agreement to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO).

The creation of WAICO marks a milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to position itself as a proactive participant in the global AI landscape. This agreement aims to foster joint research, knowledge exchange, and policy coordination among member countries, reflecting a shared vision for responsible and inclusive AI advancement. Pakistan’s involvement in WAICO demonstrates its strategic intent to leverage AI for economic growth and technological progress.

Notably, this visit aligns with Pakistan’s broader foreign policy objectives of strengthening ties with China, a key partner in regional development initiatives. The collaboration on AI is expected to open new opportunities for innovation, capacity building, and sustainable development, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in addressing the challenges and potentials of artificial intelligence.
