The Ministry of Law and Justice has formally announced the appointment of Naveed Kamran Baloch as the new Federal Ombudsman, a key position responsible for addressing public grievances against federal agencies. This appointment has received the President’s endorsement and will span a period of four years, commencing immediately upon notification.

This development follows a series of significant administrative changes within the federal bureaucracy. Notably, in May 2019, the Cabinet Secretariat and Establishment Division had announced the removal of Mohammad Younus Dagha from his role as Secretary of Finance. Subsequently, Naveed Kamran Baloch was elevated from his previous post as Secretary of the Cabinet Division to assume the critical position of Finance Secretary, reflecting the government’s confidence in his administrative capabilities.

Before these recent appointments, Baloch held the influential office of Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he played a pivotal role in provincial administration. His career in civil service began on October 22, 1985, marking over three decades of experience in various governmental roles. Throughout his tenure, he has served in multiple capacities, including as Secretary of the National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Division, showcasing his versatility and expertise across different sectors.

As a senior officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) with grade 22 status, Baloch has been recognized for his leadership and commitment to public service. It is important to note that his official retirement date is set for March 7, 2021, which adds significance to his current appointment as Federal Ombudsman, highlighting the trust placed in him to continue serving at the highest levels of government.

The role of the Federal Ombudsman is crucial in ensuring transparency and accountability within federal institutions by addressing complaints from citizens regarding maladministration. With Naveed Kamran Baloch stepping into this position, expectations are high for effective oversight and improved responsiveness to public concerns. This appointment marks a new chapter in his distinguished career and underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional frameworks.
