Karachi to Implement E-Challans for Lane Violations on Sharea Faisal from June 1

The Karachi Traffic Police have announced that starting June 1, an electronic challan system will be enforced for lane discipline violations on Sharea Faisal, one of the city’s busiest roads. Motorists found disregarding lane rules on this major artery will receive e-challans automatically.

A spokesperson emphasized the importance of adhering to lane discipline, urging all drivers to stay within their designated lanes. This directive applies to motorcycles, buses, cars, and other vehicles alike.

In a significant development, DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah revealed that the new traffic management strategy aims to establish structured lane discipline on Sharea Faisal by utilizing the existing network of surveillance cameras. The system will initially be rolled out on this route, where enforcement infrastructure is already operational.

Under the plan, motorcycles, buses, rickshaws, and light transport vehicles such as Mazdas will be required to use the two leftmost lanes. The remaining two to three lanes, depending on the section, will be reserved for faster-moving vehicles including cars and double-cabin trucks.

The top traffic official explained that the camera system will automatically issue e-tickets to violators, ensuring strict enforcement. Fines have been standardized based on vehicle type, with motorcycles and rickshaws facing penalties of Rs2,500, while buses will be fined Rs7,500 for lane violations.
