Police Detain Bridegroom and Father Over Underage Marriage in Dadu

Law enforcement officials in Dadu have taken action by arresting a bridegroom along with his father for participating in an underage marriage. This incident underscores the persistent challenge of child marriages in various parts of Pakistan, despite legal prohibitions. Underage marriage remains a critical social issue, often linked to broader concerns such as education deprivation and health risks for young girls.

In a significant development, the arrests reflect the increasing enforcement of laws aimed at curbing child marriages, which are outlawed under Pakistan’s Child Marriage Restraint Act. Authorities have been urged to intensify efforts to prevent such practices, which violate children’s rights and hinder their development. The move is expected to send a strong message to communities where underage marriages are still prevalent.

Meanwhile, activists and human rights organizations continue to advocate for stronger measures and public awareness campaigns to eradicate child marriage. The incident in Dadu highlights the need for coordinated action involving law enforcement, social services, and education sectors. Addressing this issue is crucial for improving the welfare and future prospects of vulnerable children across the country.
