In Dhaka, Pakistan’s batsman Salman Ali Agha expressed confidence that the national team will comfortably chase down the target if Bangladesh is held to 260 runs within 70 overs on the final day of the Test match. He emphasized that Pakistan is determined to pursue victory in the concluding session.
At the close of the fourth day of the first Test against Pakistan, Bangladesh stood at 152 for 3 in their second innings, holding a lead of 179 runs overall. Speaking at the post-day press conference, Salman Ali Agha remarked that the contest remains evenly poised, making the final day highly intriguing.
He outlined Pakistan’s strategy to dismiss Bangladesh as quickly as possible on the last day. Agha noted that if Bangladesh manages to set a target around 260 runs over 60 to 70 overs, Pakistan will confidently chase it down. However, he expressed doubt that Bangladesh would adopt such a cautious approach. He added that a target of 300 runs in 30 to 40 overs would pose a much tougher challenge for Pakistan.
Reflecting on the match so far, Agha praised Pakistan’s performance on the second day, highlighting their effective bowling and solid batting. He acknowledged that the first day had not gone in Pakistan’s favor, while the third day produced mixed results.
He reiterated that winning remains the primary goal in Test cricket, with Pakistan aiming to bowl out Bangladesh swiftly. He also mentioned that only Bangladesh can clarify their own tactics moving forward.
In a significant development, Agha pointed out that the introduction of the World Test Championship has encouraged teams to play for outright wins. He observed that pitches are now prepared to produce results, contrasting with conditions from a decade or more ago when many Tests ended in draws due to different pitch characteristics.
