Punjab braces for dust storms and heavy rain over next two days

Authorities in Punjab have intensified emergency preparedness following forecasts of strong winds, dust storms, and rainfall expected across several districts over the coming two days. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a province-wide advisory cautioning that weather conditions may deteriorate starting Sunday evening and continue until May 12.

The advisory highlights the likelihood of thunderstorms and scattered showers in various cities, including Lahore. This warning arrives as the province endures a severe heatwave, with temperatures significantly exceeding seasonal norms, particularly in central and southern areas.

Officials have urged the public to exercise caution, noting that the unstable weather could disrupt daily routines and travel plans. The districts anticipated to be impacted include Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Jhang, Okara, and Dera Ghazi Khan, among others.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that a new westerly weather system has moved into the northern regions of the country. This development increases the chances of thunderstorms, isolated heavy rainfall, and hailstorms in northern and upper areas. Despite this, much of the country is expected to remain hot and dry through Sunday and Monday.
