Pakistan and Qatar Reaffirm Support for Middle East Peace Dialogue

Pakistan and Qatar reaffirmed their mutual dedication to supporting ongoing initiatives aimed at fostering lasting peace and constructive dialogue throughout the Middle East. This commitment was emphasized during a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, where they discussed the evolving regional dynamics and collaborative peace efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared on his X account that both leaders reviewed the progress of peace initiatives designed to enhance regional stability. He also expressed gratitude to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his prudent leadership and Qatar’s steadfast support of Pakistan’s sincere diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

The two premiers exchanged perspectives on recent developments and reaffirmed the significance of constructive engagement by all parties to ensure the success of ongoing peace processes. The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement highlighting the importance both leaders placed on collaborative dialogue to advance these efforts.

During the call, PM Shehbaz Sharif also expressed anticipation for the forthcoming visit of the Qatari Emir to Pakistan, noting that the visit would further strengthen and expand the enduring partnership between the two nations.

This dialogue occurs amid Pakistan’s active role in mediating tensions in the Middle East, which escalated following US-Israel attacks on Iran on February 28. Pakistan emerged as a key intermediary between Tehran and Washington during the six-week conflict, which concluded on April 8 with a ceasefire brokered by Islamabad.

Following the ceasefire, Pakistan hosted delegations from the US and Iran for peace talks on April 10. Although these negotiations did not result in a permanent resolution, Pakistan has maintained diplomatic engagement with both sides to encourage a return to dialogue.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump indicated in a brief interview that he expected Iran’s response to Washington’s latest peace proposal soon. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman stated that the proposal remains under review, signaling ongoing deliberations.
