US Vice President Vance Calls Iran Truce Fragile, Urges Good Faith Talks

During a visit to Budapest, Hungary, US Vice President JD Vance described the recently agreed ceasefire with Iran as fragile and called on Tehran to engage in negotiations with genuine intent to establish a lasting agreement. The two-week truce was announced shortly before President Donald Trump’s deadline for a deal, which threatened severe consequences if unmet.

Vance emphasized that the conflict would not be considered resolved until formal terms were finalized, reflecting Tehran’s stance. He stated that if Iran approaches the talks in good faith, a successful agreement could be reached. However, he warned that failure to cooperate would reveal that President Trump is not one to be underestimated, highlighting the President’s impatience to achieve progress.

Highlighting the administration’s position, Vance pointed out that the US maintains significant military, diplomatic, and economic leverage over Iran. He cautioned that any attempts by Iran to deceive, cheat, or undermine the fragile ceasefire would lead to serious consequences.

Vance’s visit to Budapest began on Tuesday, where he expressed support for Hungarian nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Orban is currently facing an unprecedented challenge to his 16-year tenure in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday.
