LAFC Aims to Extend Shutout Streak Against Orlando’s Struggling Defense

Los Angeles FC is set to extend their record-breaking shutout streak when they host Orlando City this Saturday. LAFC has started the season perfectly, remaining unbeaten through five matches while not conceding a single goal. Their 450-minute streak without allowing a goal is now the longest clean sheet run at the start of an MLS season, during which they have scored eight goals.

The team has also managed a demanding schedule, balancing domestic matches with continental competition, having played nine games in just 33 days. They are preparing to return to CONCACAF Champions League action on Tuesday with the quarter-final first leg against Cruz Azul.

Head coach Marc Dos Santos noted that the international break provided an opportunity for the squad to regroup. However, he cautioned against underestimating Orlando City, emphasizing that their opponents might implement tactical adjustments following the break. “Because they struggled early in the season, it’s a red alert for us not to drop our guard,” he remarked.

Orlando City has faced a challenging start to the campaign, conceding a league-high 17 goals across five matches. Under interim coach Martin Perelman, the team secured a 2-1 victory over CF Montreal but then suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to Nashville SC.

Midfielder Eduard Atuesta highlighted the ongoing adaptation process within the squad, which includes dealing with injuries and adjusting to a new coaching staff. “This is a process with a lot happening at the same time,” he said. “We have to keep working and trust what we are building.”

Atuesta is expected to return from a thigh injury for the upcoming game, while defenders Griffin Dorsey, Robin Jansson, and David Brekalo remain doubtful for the match against LAFC.
