Sinkhole Swallows Car with Two Women on Tariq Road, Karachi

In a startling incident on Tariq Road, Karachi, a moving vehicle carrying two women was suddenly swallowed by a large sinkhole after a section of the road collapsed near Cafe Liberty, a bustling commercial area. The road gave way abruptly, causing the car, with the driver and passenger inside, to submerge into several feet of water.

Nearby pedestrians heard the women’s cries for help and quickly rushed to the scene, alerting police and rescue teams without delay. Rescue officials arrived promptly and successfully extracted both women from the submerged vehicle. Heavy machinery was later deployed to recover the car, which was lifted out using a private crane.

Authorities sealed off the area with barriers, halting all vehicular and pedestrian traffic to prevent further hazards. Notably, female traffic police officers assisted in the safe rescue operation. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The incident triggered public outrage, with local residents criticizing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) for poor road maintenance and alleged use of substandard construction materials. Citizens demanded an immediate inquiry and accountability for the deteriorating road conditions that pose significant risks to public safety.

Rescue personnel emphasized the urgent need for repairs to prevent similar occurrences. Locals continue to urge authorities to take swift action to address the hazardous state of the city’s infrastructure.
