Karachi Sees Rs 20 Per Litre Increase in Milk Prices

The price of milk in Karachi has been raised by Rs 20 per litre, marking a significant adjustment in the local dairy market. This change was officially confirmed through a notification issued by the Commissioner of Karachi, Hassan Naqvi, following discussions with representatives from the city’s dairy farming community.

Under the revised pricing structure, the cost for dairy farmers has been set at Rs 215 per litre, while wholesalers will now pay Rs 225 per litre. Consumers can expect to purchase milk at a new retail price of Rs 240 per litre. This increase reflects the rising expenses associated with milk production, which have placed considerable financial pressure on those involved in the dairy sector.

In a key meeting held on Tuesday evening, Commissioner Naqvi engaged with a delegation from the Karachi Dairy Farmers to address the concerns surrounding the sustainability of current milk prices. Shabbir Dar, representing the dairy farmers, emphasized that the escalating costs of production had made it impossible for farmers to continue selling milk at the previous rates without incurring losses.

This price adjustment highlights the challenges faced by the dairy industry in Karachi amid fluctuating input costs. It also underscores the government’s role in balancing the interests of producers and consumers to ensure the availability of essential commodities like milk in the city.
