Pakistan’s energy sector has received a notable boost this week as three fuel shipments arrived at Port Qasim, complemented by a significant gas discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These developments are expected to strengthen the country’s energy reserves and production capacity.
Three vessels carrying Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and coal have anchored in Karachi to replenish national energy stocks. The PCG Pericles brought over 3,800 tonnes of LPG from Oman, while the Navigator Airis arrived from Iraq with a substantial shipment of 11,136 tonnes of LPG. Additionally, a coal carrier transporting 52,000 metric tons is currently offloading its cargo, which will support industrial activities and power generation, helping to stabilize the strained energy supply chain.
In a significant development for domestic energy production, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced a major gas discovery in the Tall Block of Kohat district. The exploratory well is expected to yield 26.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, marking a promising addition to local resources.
This project is a collaborative effort involving Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), MOL, and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL). Officials anticipate that this discovery will help reduce the current supply-demand gap and enhance the success rate of future drilling operations in the area, representing a crucial step toward achieving long-term energy self-reliance.
