Pakistan Launches Petrol Subsidy App for Low-Income Two- and Three-Wheeler Owners

The federal government of Pakistan has introduced a new initiative aimed at providing petrol subsidies to low-income vehicle owners during the ongoing energy crisis. This program specifically targets users of two- and three-wheeler vehicles, such as motorcycles and rickshaws, to help shield them from the impact of escalating global fuel prices.

In a significant development, the Ministry of Information Technology has developed a dedicated mobile application to facilitate the management and distribution of the petrol subsidy. Currently undergoing testing, this app will enable eligible users to access subsidized fuel in a more efficient and transparent manner.

Notably, vehicles with engine capacities up to 800cc have not yet been included in the scheme, but priority is being given to two- and three-wheelers. For motorcycles, the government is proposing a monthly quota of up to 20 liters of subsidized petrol.

To implement this subsidy effectively, approximately 12,000 petrol stations across the country will be equipped with special nozzles designated for subsidized fuel. Each station will also receive two mobile devices to process fuel transactions via the app, ensuring smooth operations and accountability.

Officials emphasize that this initiative is designed to alleviate the financial strain on vulnerable segments of society while mitigating the effects of international fuel price hikes for eligible vehicle owners. The petrol subsidy app is expected to be launched soon, with citizens encouraged to follow official government updates for details on eligibility and application procedures.
