Karachi Kings pacer Mir Hamza has expressed strong support for captain David Warner, describing his leadership as a crucial advantage for the team as they prepare for the 11th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Warner, returning to captain the Kings for a second straight year, led the side to the playoffs last season before they were eliminated by eventual champions Lahore Qalandars. With a refreshed squad and greater depth, the Kings are determined to push further this time.
“Having David Warner as our captain again is a huge positive. He’s a natural leader and very supportive,” Hamza said ahead of the team’s training session. He also praised the squad’s balance, singling out the addition of Salman Ali Agha as a significant boost. “Salman is a strong middle-order player who can contribute with both bat and ball and has the ability to play long innings,” he added.
Hamza noted that the team’s preparations are gaining momentum after a slow start caused by the Eid break. “Our warm-up match came at the perfect time. We needed match practice, and it really helped us get into rhythm,” he explained.
With the PSL expanding to eight teams this season, competition is expected to intensify. Hamza acknowledged the challenge but remained confident. “Every franchise has strengthened their squad, so the competition will be fierce. My focus is on performing well and contributing wherever the team needs me,” he stated.
Addressing concerns about weather conditions, Hamza emphasized adaptability. “Weather always plays a role, but as professionals, we have to adjust. Most of our matches are scheduled at night, so conditions shouldn’t affect us much,” he said.
Karachi Kings will kick off their PSL 11 campaign on Friday against Quetta Gladiators. Their squad features a blend of international stars and promising local talent, including David Warner (c), Hasan Ali, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Khushdil Shah, Saad Baig, Moeen Ali, Azam Khan (wk), Salman Ali Agha, Shahid Aziz, Mir Hamza, Adam Zampa, Mohammad Hamza Sohail, Aqib Ilyas, Khwaja Bin Tanveer, Reeza Hendricks, Muhammad Waseem, Ihsanullah, and Rizwanullah.
