Morocco has officially signed an agreement to join the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) tasked with supporting peace and security in the Gaza Strip. The signing took place in Rabat during a meeting attended by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, senior defense officials, and Nickolay Mladenov, the UN envoy for Gaza, alongside the ISF commander.
The Moroccan defense administration highlighted that this agreement symbolizes a mutual commitment to contribute through tangible humanitarian and security measures aimed at fostering a stable and peaceful environment in the region.
In a significant development, the Gaza Peace Council and ISF leadership welcomed Morocco’s decision to participate in the mission. Morocco plans to deploy senior military officers, gendarmerie, and police forces, as well as establish a military field hospital to support the operation.
The Moroccan contingent will play a crucial role in maintaining order and facilitating humanitarian relief efforts within the Gaza enclave, reinforcing the multinational stabilisation initiative.
Diplomatically, Morocco, a close ally of the United States, restored formal relations with Israel in 2020 through a trilateral agreement. The country continues to advocate for a negotiated two-state solution to the longstanding Middle East conflict.
The signing of this agreement sets the legal and operational foundation for Morocco’s involvement in the ISF, marking a key step in the international effort to stabilize Gaza.
