Pakistan Condemns Demolition of Historic Mosque in Uttar Pradesh, India

Pakistan has vehemently condemned the demolition of a mosque over a hundred years old in Uttar Pradesh, India, labeling the act as a deeply regrettable assault on a significant Islamic religious site. The Foreign Office spokesperson, Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan, described the incident as a clear example of a larger Islamophobic and Hindutva-inspired campaign aimed at eradicating Islamic cultural landmarks.

The mosque was dismantled during an early morning operation on September 5, 2026, carried out by Uttar Pradesh authorities with substantial police presence, reports from Indian media. In response to questions from the press, the spokesperson recalled the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid, which Pakistan views as a lasting emblem of religious intolerance, bias, and hatred.

In a significant development, Pakistan urged the international community to urgently recognize what it terms the systematic oppression of Muslims by Indian officials, including the ongoing desecration and destruction of Muslim places of worship with state support. The Foreign Office called for accountability from Indian authorities for actions that violate the fundamental religious rights and cultural heritage of minority communities, particularly Muslims.
