Over 100 Dead as Yemen’s Houthis Advance Toward Strategic Strait

Violent confrontations have escalated in Yemen as Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, intensify their offensive against government troops. Since Thursday, the conflict has surged with the Houthis advancing toward a strategically crucial strait, a key maritime route that holds significant geopolitical importance. This surge in fighting has led to a tragic death toll exceeding 100, highlighting the severe humanitarian and security crisis unfolding in the region.

The strait in question is vital for international shipping and regional trade, making control over it a critical objective for both sides. The Houthis’ push threatens to disrupt maritime traffic and exacerbate tensions among neighboring countries and global powers invested in the stability of this corridor. Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces are mounting resistance to prevent the rebels from gaining control, resulting in intense and deadly clashes.

In a significant development, the ongoing conflict underscores the broader proxy dynamics in Yemen, where Iran’s support for the Houthis clashes with the internationally recognized government backed by a Saudi-led coalition. The escalation not only deepens Yemen’s prolonged civil war but also risks destabilizing the wider Middle East region. The humanitarian impact continues to worsen, with civilians caught in the crossfire and critical infrastructure at risk, raising urgent calls for renewed diplomatic efforts to halt the violence.
