The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms across several northern regions of the country from August 28 through September 6.
Rainfall is expected in Murree, the Galiyat area, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujrat. Additionally, multiple districts in Punjab, including Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, and Mandi Bahauddin, are likely to experience precipitation during this period.
Meanwhile, various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are forecast to receive rain from August 29 to September 5. The weather system is also anticipated to bring rainfall to parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as Gilgit-Baltistan.
In a significant development, the Meteorological Department cautioned that heavy rainfall may lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas. There is a heightened risk of flooding in streams and nullahs, especially in the upper regions during intense downpours. Residents have been advised to exercise caution during severe weather and to avoid unnecessary travel.
Authorities have urged people living in vulnerable and low-lying zones to stay alert to the possibility of flooding and rapidly changing weather conditions. Relevant government departments and emergency response agencies have been instructed to implement precautionary measures ahead of time to manage any potential weather-related emergencies effectively.
