Netanyahu Claims Iran Tried to Assassinate One of His Sons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asserted that Iran made an attempt to assassinate one of his two sons, though he did not specify which son was targeted or provide details about the timing or method of the alleged plot.

Netanyahu revealed this claim during a phone interview with military correspondent Noam Amir on Israel’s Channel 14. He described the incident as “incredible,” emphasizing that Iran had singled out one of his sons for assassination.

In a significant development, Netanyahu linked the alleged attempt to the security arrangements currently in place for his family. He stressed that the protection afforded to his sons is a necessity rather than a privilege, warning that without such security, potential attackers might succeed.

This announcement followed Israel’s approval of extended security measures for Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, and their sons, Yair and Avner. The protection is set to continue even beyond Netanyahu’s possible departure from the prime ministership.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu mentioned that he had consulted with Shin Bet chief David Zini to ensure adequate security protocols are in place for candidates running for prime minister, reflecting ongoing political instability in Israel.

Notably, no public evidence has been released to substantiate the claim of an Iranian assassination attempt, and Netanyahu did not clarify whether Yair or Avner was the intended target.

The statement comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with Netanyahu consistently portraying Iran as a significant security threat to Israel’s national safety.
