The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to Amna Saeed, who faces allegations of assaulting her husband and daughters. The court observed that the conflict appeared to be of a domestic and familial nature rather than criminal.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued an eight-page detailed order highlighting that the prosecution had submitted CCTV footage showing Saeed herself taking her husband to the hospital following the incident. This evidence played a significant role in the court’s decision.
In line with precedents set by the Supreme Court, the IHC emphasized that the accused is entitled to bail after a fair and unbiased investigation. The order also noted that Saeed holds a PhD in Philosophy and has no prior criminal history, which influenced the court’s favorable consideration.
Furthermore, the court referenced legal provisions that prioritize granting bail to women and certain other categories of defendants. However, the IHC warned that the bail could be revoked if Saeed attempts to obstruct the judicial process or manipulate evidence.
Consequently, the court approved bail on the condition of surety bonds amounting to Rs200,000. The case originated from a complaint filed by Saeed’s husband, Saeed Ahmed, at the Women Police Station in Islamabad, accusing her of assault.
