Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has recognized the mounting frustration surrounding the prolonged delay in delivering a verdict on the allegations against Manchester City. The case, involving 115 charges of alleged violations of the league’s financial regulations, has cast a lingering shadow over the club.
Manchester City, which has consistently denied any misconduct, was formally charged in February 2023. Masters emphasized that the league’s rules require confidentiality until a decision is finalized, preventing any updates on the timing or progress of the case.
“The only option is to allow the process to unfold naturally,” Masters stated, acknowledging that the investigation has taken longer than initially anticipated and expressing understanding of the growing impatience among stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Manchester City is entering a new era under the leadership of Enzo Maresca, the former Chelsea manager, following the departure of Pep Guardiola. Guardiola ended his decade-long tenure at the club last season, during which he secured six Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and numerous other trophies.
The club is set to kick off its Premier League campaign at home against Bournemouth this Sunday, as the uncertainty surrounding the financial case continues to loom.
