Government Raises Petrol and Diesel Prices Amid Global Oil Market Shifts

The federal government has sanctioned a hike in the retail prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, responding to the latest recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). This adjustment reflects ongoing fluctuations in the international oil market, which directly impact domestic fuel costs.

As per the official notification released on Thursday, the price of petrol has been raised by 45 paisa per litre, pushing the new retail rate to Rs325.43 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel has seen a smaller increase of 16 paisa per litre, bringing its price to Rs382.95 per litre. These changes mark a continuation of periodic price revisions aimed at aligning local fuel prices with global trends.

In a significant development, OGRA issued the revised rates after thorough analysis and consultation, which were subsequently approved by the federal government. This price adjustment is part of the government’s broader strategy to manage the economic impact of volatile international oil prices while ensuring supply stability within the country.

Notably, fuel price revisions have a ripple effect on various sectors of the economy, influencing transportation costs, inflation, and overall consumer spending. The government’s decision underscores the challenges faced in balancing fiscal responsibility with the need to maintain affordable energy resources for the public.
