New Five-Member Team Formed to Investigate Mir Raza Ali’s Murder

A new five-member committee has been established to investigate the murder of young businessman Mir Raza Ali following the recent exhumation of his body. Ali’s remains were discovered in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area last month, a day after he disappeared on July 28.

The committee will be headed by DIG Amir Farooqi, with SSP Rapid Response Force (RRF) Ali Raza serving as its secretary. Other members include SP Investigation Korangi Qais Khan, Central SP Investigation Anum Tajammul, and an officer from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Zaman Town. Their mandate is to thoroughly examine all aspects and circumstances surrounding Ali’s death.

The panel is scheduled to hold its inaugural meeting on Monday at 2 pm in the DIG Crime Branch office, with all members required to attend. The team will review the progress made so far and initiate a detailed inquiry into various facets of the case. This formation follows orders from Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho, who dissolved the previous committee.

Initial medical findings, revealed after the exhumation and post-mortem examination, indicate that Mir Raza Ali was shot from behind and suffered multiple violent injuries. The report detailed fractures to his ribs and jaw, numerous wounds on his head and face, black marks on his body, and injuries to his feet. Blood stains were detected on tissues in the lower body, and a 12-centimeter fracture was found on his right thigh. Additionally, severe chest injuries, including a fractured sixth rib, were documented.

Ali was reburied near Tariq Road following the post-mortem. His father has maintained since July 30 that his son was murdered, disputing earlier claims suggesting suicide. He expressed frustration over false narratives circulated about Mir Raza and stated that while the family does not know who was responsible, the police have full knowledge of the case.

Family lawyer Jibran Nasir noted evidence suggesting Ali was assaulted prior to being shot in the back. He demanded the replacement of the entire investigative team, urging authorities to appoint a new panel after careful evaluation. Nasir warned that failure to do so would compel the family to seek judicial intervention.
