South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia are set to compete in a significant T20 International tri-series beginning on August 28 in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. This city will also serve as one of the co-hosts for the 2027 cricket World Cup, making the tournament a notable precursor to the global event.

The tri-series will take place at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground and will feature seven matches among the three African nations. This competition provides an early glimpse of the highly anticipated T20 World Cup, which will return to the African continent after a 24-year hiatus.

In a major development for African cricket, these three countries will jointly host the International Cricket Council (ICC) administered T20 World Cup, scheduled from October 4 to November 21, 2027. This tournament is expected to attract global attention and enthusiasm across the continent.

For African cricket enthusiasts, this event represents a significant milestone. Tavengwa Mukuhlani, chairman of the Africa Cricket Association, highlighted the importance of the tri-series, stating it marks the start of an exciting new era for cricket in Africa. He emphasized that bringing Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Namibia together in regular, competitive international matches is laying the groundwork for greater achievements in African cricket.

Furthermore, Mukuhlani revealed plans to launch the Africa Cup in 2027, aiming to establish it as the premier international cricket tournament on the continent. This vision reflects a strategic effort to elevate the profile and development of cricket across Africa in the years to come.
