The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced the postponement of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026, shifting the exam date from August 16 to September 20. This change comes under the instruction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who emphasized the need for a more transparent and well-organized examination.
The PMDC clarified that all other conditions and arrangements for the exam will remain unchanged, with only the date being revised. Students have been advised to check the official website regularly for the latest updates regarding the exam.
In a significant development earlier this year, the PMDC mandated that students aspiring to study medicine or dentistry abroad must first pass the MDCAT and obtain registration before departure. This move aims to streamline the recognition and licensing process for overseas medical qualifications.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar recently chaired a high-level committee meeting focused on enhancing the regulatory framework for medical and dental education in Pakistan. The Sub-Committee on Accreditation of Medical and Dental Colleges and Postgraduate Qualifications convened to review ongoing reforms and regulatory measures.
During this session, the committee resolved that all students planning to pursue medical or dental education abroad must successfully clear the MDCAT and register with the PMDC beforehand. This requirement is intended to prevent any future complications related to recognition, licensing, or registration of foreign qualifications.
Notably, the PMDC had also postponed the MDCAT last year due to the widespread flooding affecting the country, demonstrating its responsiveness to national circumstances.
