Polling resumed on Tuesday at 54 polling stations across Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s constituencies LA-27 and LA-28, where voting had been delayed due to adverse weather conditions on Sunday. The electoral process will continue until 5pm, with authorities enforcing rigorous security measures to maintain peace throughout the voting.
The elections in these two constituencies were initially set for August 2 but were deferred following the unfavorable weather. Meanwhile, the AJK Election Commission announced that polling for constituency LA-24 Poonch and Sudhnoti-7 (Baloch) is scheduled for August 10. This date coincides with the third phase of elections covering the remaining constituencies in the Poonch Division.
Notably, the election timetable for LA-24 was adjusted after the electoral process was halted due to the death of independent candidate Zahid Yaseen. The third phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections will take place on August 10, focusing on the Poonch Division.
In earlier phases, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured nine out of 13 seats in the Mirpur Division, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won four seats. During the second phase, unofficial and provisional results indicate the PML-N leading again with 13 seats in the Muzaffarabad Division, with the PPP obtaining five seats.
