The Rawalpindi district administration has declared a public holiday for all government and private educational institutions within the city limits in observance of Chehlum. This decision aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of religious activities and ensure public safety during the significant event.
However, the deputy commissioner clarified that this holiday will not extend to educational institutions located in the Cantonment Board areas of Rawalpindi. In addition to the school closures, markets and commercial centers situated along the routes of the Chehlum procession will also remain shut as part of comprehensive security measures implemented by the authorities.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the city of Lahore has announced a public holiday on Tuesday to commemorate the 983rd annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), a revered Sufi saint. This holiday applies exclusively to the Lahore district and its subordinate government offices, while the Punjab Civil Secretariat, its attached departments, and regional offices will maintain their regular operations.
These observances highlight the importance of religious and cultural events in the region, prompting local administrations to adjust public schedules accordingly to accommodate both security concerns and public participation in these significant occasions.
