Pakistan Endorses Gaza Peace Plan Progress, Supports Palestinian Statehood

Pakistan expressed its approval on Saturday regarding the recent positive strides made towards implementing the Gaza peace plan, describing it as a crucial move for restoring peace and stability in the region.

A Foreign Office spokesperson highlighted Pakistan’s appreciation for the mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, which have played a significant role in advancing the peace initiative. The spokesperson conveyed optimism that all commitments outlined in the Gaza peace plan would be fully honored.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s enduring position on the Palestinian issue, the statement emphasized Islamabad’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s fundamental right to self-determination. Pakistan also reiterated its backing for the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital.

In a significant development, US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday what he termed a “historic” agreement aimed at initiating the phased disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions in Gaza. However, uncertainties remain regarding Israel’s endorsement of the proposal and whether Hamas will ultimately relinquish its weapons.

Trump shared on Truth Social that negotiations held in Cairo, involving mediators and Hamas representatives, culminated in an agreement for Hamas to disarm gradually. He described this as a “monumental step toward lasting peace and security.”

The proposed framework envisions the establishment of a new Palestinian administration to govern Gaza in coordination with the Board of Peace. It also aims to address Israel’s security concerns by preventing Gaza from being used as a base for future attacks.
