Fakhar Zaman Supports Pakistan Team Amid Criticism; Naseem Shah Promises Comeback

In Lahore, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has called on fans to remain patient with the national cricket team despite recent setbacks. Speaking at the National Cricket Academy, he emphasized that the players themselves, rather than the management or coaching staff, must take accountability for the team’s recent difficulties.

Fakhar acknowledged that criticism is a natural consequence of poor results but expressed optimism about the team’s future. He stated that every team experiences challenging periods and assured supporters that a stronger Pakistan side would emerge soon.

Defending the Pakistan Cricket Board and coaching staff, Fakhar argued it was unjust to place the blame solely on them. He highlighted that consistent performance is ultimately the players’ responsibility, and each squad member strives to deliver under the pressures of international cricket.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s performances since 2022, Fakhar described this time as a learning phase and expressed hope that the difficult stretch would conclude shortly. He also mentioned ongoing discussions with team management regarding his batting position but stressed that the team’s needs always take precedence.

“If the team requires me in a particular role, I will adapt accordingly. We are united in our goals,” he said. Fakhar also advocated for giving opportunities to emerging talent, stating that any player capable of taking his place should be selected without hesitation. Representing Pakistan remains the highest motivation for all cricketers, he added.

Looking ahead, Fakhar identified the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in South Africa as his immediate target, noting that the playing conditions there complement his batting style.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Naseem Shah admitted his recent performances have not met expectations and pledged to work hard to regain his best form. He acknowledged that Pakistan’s bowling attack has underperformed in recent matches but pointed out that the evolving nature of modern cricket presents new challenges.

“The game has changed significantly, with teams frequently scoring over 300 in ODIs and 200 in T20s, and some even surpassing 400 in one-day matches. We must adapt to these developments,” Naseem explained.

He revealed that his recent break from cricket was used to enhance his physical fitness and clarified that not all injuries are related to conditioning. Regarding workload management, Naseem stated that players must take responsibility for managing themselves across formats, while the team management decides which formats they participate in.

Expressing a personal aspiration, Naseem said he hopes to one day play alongside his two brothers for Pakistan, describing it as a proud moment if it comes to pass.
