Government Lowers Petrol Price, Raises High-Speed Diesel Rate from July 30

The federal government has announced a revision in petroleum prices, resulting in a decrease in petrol rates and an increase in high-speed diesel (HSD) prices. This adjustment comes as part of the latest review conducted by the Petroleum Division, aiming to balance market demands and fiscal considerations.

Specifically, the price of petrol has been lowered by Rs0.75 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs335.06 per litre. Meanwhile, the cost of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs2.24 per litre, bringing its price to Rs390.62 per litre. These changes are scheduled to take effect from midnight on July 30.

The reduction in petrol prices is expected to provide some financial relief to motorists amid rising living costs. However, the increase in diesel prices is likely to have broader economic implications. Diesel is widely used in freight transportation, public transit, and agriculture, sectors that are sensitive to fuel price fluctuations.

Analysts warn that the hike in diesel costs could lead to increased transportation expenses, which may subsequently drive up the prices of essential goods and services. This development could contribute to inflationary pressures across various sectors of the economy. The revised fuel prices will remain in effect until the following day, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to manage energy costs in a challenging economic environment.
