The election process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is set to officially start on Sunday, with authorities confirming that all necessary arrangements have been completed ahead of the polling day.
Chief Secretary Khushal Khan announced that polling materials have been dispatched to returning officers, while district administrations, the Election Commission, and other relevant bodies have finalized their preparations. The election campaign is currently at its peak across the region, with political parties actively holding corner meetings and displaying banners, posters, and party flags. Prominent leaders from major federal political parties are also present in AJK to support their candidates.
In a significant development, Khushal Khan revealed that police officers from all four provinces will join forces with the AJK Police to ensure security during the elections. He expressed confidence that the polls would be conducted peacefully, highlighting AJK’s history of high voter turnout and orderly elections. Strong public participation is anticipated as voters prepare to elect their representatives.
The chief secretary further cautioned that election-related propaganda on social media is being closely monitored, with strict measures planned against anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process or disturb public order. He emphasized that the people of AJK have reaffirmed their commitment to democracy by rejecting disruptive elements, and all state institutions are fully prepared to facilitate peaceful elections.
Meanwhile, AJK Election Commission Secretary Raja Shakeel Khan stated that over 22,000 election officials have been deployed, and polling materials have been delivered to all polling stations. The Chief Election Commissioner recently reviewed the arrangements to ensure transparency, and training for polling staff has been completed.
Security has been placed on high alert, with police, Rangers, and the Frontier Constabulary deployed throughout the region. Secretary Raja Shakeel Khan dismissed social media claims of an election boycott, explaining that old videos are being recirculated to create a misleading narrative. He underscored the importance of voting, noting that political parties and candidates have welcomed the Election Commission’s code of conduct.
He also highlighted that citizens are actively reporting attempts to obstruct the electoral process, and no untoward incidents have been reported during the preparations. The authorities remain vigilant to ensure smooth and peaceful elections in AJK.
