Consumers in Peshawar are facing another increase in flour prices, with the cost of a 20kg bag rising sharply by Rs100 to Rs150 over just two days. This fresh hike has added to the financial strain on households already grappling with inflationary pressures.
The Flour Dealers Association reported that the price of a 20kg bag of mixed flour has climbed from Rs2,650 to Rs2,800, while fine flour has seen an increase from Rs2,900 to Rs3,000. This rapid escalation in prices highlights the volatility in the flour market, which is closely linked to the fluctuating cost of wheat.
In a significant development, flour dealers have pointed to the rising rates of wheat as the primary factor behind the continuous price hikes. Wheat, being the main raw material for flour production, has become more expensive due to supply constraints and market dynamics, which in turn is putting upward pressure on flour prices.
Meanwhile, industry experts warn that the cost of flour is likely to remain elevated in the near term as wheat supplies continue to be costly. This situation poses challenges for both consumers and retailers, as the essential commodity becomes less affordable amidst broader economic difficulties.
