PDMA Alerts Sindh for Rain, Thunderstorms Until July 25

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Sindh has issued a province-wide alert as heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast across multiple regions until July 25. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts widespread rainfall driven by strong monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea between July 23 and 25.

In response, PDMA Sindh Director General Syed Salman Shah has instructed all district administrations, relevant departments, and emergency response teams to maintain heightened vigilance and implement precautionary measures. Heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated locations including Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is expected in Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Khairpur. Areas such as Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, and Thatta are forecast to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms today and tomorrow. Karachi’s weather is likely to remain warm and humid with partly cloudy skies and chances of isolated drizzle.

Shah cautioned that strong winds and lightning could pose risks to vulnerable infrastructure, including electricity poles, solar panels, billboards, and weak structures throughout the province. Authorities have been directed to take all necessary precautions and remain fully prepared for emergency response.

The PDMA has activated its monsoon preparedness plan, ensuring that dewatering pumps and essential machinery are ready for immediate deployment. Low-lying areas prone to urban and flash flooding have been identified to facilitate rapid response efforts. Shah emphasized that if flooding occurs, dewatering equipment will be promptly relocated to affected zones.

He also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, stay clear of electricity poles and unstable structures, and adhere strictly to official safety guidelines to minimize risks during the monsoon period.
