Iranian Interior Minister Iskandar Momani arrived in Islamabad for a high-level visit, where he received a warm reception from his Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi, at the airport. The Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, was also present, and State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry greeted the visiting minister with a bouquet.
Mohsin Naqvi welcomed Momani, referring to him as his brother and expressing hope that the visit would bring positive developments. He emphasized the potential for progress on regional issues and anticipated that the visit would further solidify the relationship between Pakistan and Iran.
Subsequently, Mohsin Naqvi and Iskandar Momani held a meeting in Islamabad to discuss matters of mutual interest. Momani expressed his pleasure at meeting Naqvi again, describing the ties between Pakistan and Iran as historic and unparalleled. He also conveyed his gratitude for the hospitality shown by the Pakistani government and its people.
During his stay, Momani is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, highlighting the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
Notably, this visit occurs amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following recent US military strikes on Iran. Over the past ten days, the United States has targeted more than 95 strategic sites across Tehran and other regions. In response, Iran suspended all commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Following its temporary withdrawal from the Islamabad talks, Iran launched missile attacks on key US military bases in the Middle East, resulting in the deaths of at least two US soldiers and injuries to four others. This backdrop underscores the importance of the ongoing diplomatic efforts between Pakistan and Iran.
