Gujranwala Courts Deliver Harsh Sentences to 164 Human Traffickers in Six Months

Courts in Gujranwala have intensified their efforts against human trafficking, delivering stringent sentences as part of a focused crackdown. This initiative follows the implementation of a special action plan designed to combat this serious crime.

a report by Muhammad Bin Ashraf, Director of the FIA Gujranwala Zone, 164 individuals accused of human trafficking were handed severe punishments by the courts during the first six months of 2026. Among those convicted are notorious traffickers such as Aslam Mayo, Sarwar Sindhu, Nadeem Mayo, and Rauf Smuggler, each sentenced to 22 years imprisonment based on compelling evidence and advanced investigative methods.

Other significant sentences include Sajjad, who received 19 years, and Sagheer, who was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for their involvement in trafficking activities. These rulings represent a significant achievement for the FIA, reflecting a shift from previously low conviction rates despite numerous arrests and cases.

Many traffickers operating in the Gujranwala region have been engaged in this illicit trade for decades. However, recent legislative reforms and the FIA’s dedicated action plan have strengthened the legal framework, enabling more effective arrests, thorough investigations, and the presentation of robust evidence leading to successful prosecutions.

Director Ashraf also highlighted a remarkable financial recovery this year, with Rs880.96 million retrieved through ongoing investigations and legal proceedings against the accused. This financial restitution underscores the comprehensive approach being taken to dismantle trafficking networks and deliver justice.
