Information Minister Attaullah Tarar attended a ceremony on Tuesday to mark the 10th anniversary of Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day as the chief guest. He lauded the bravery and steadfastness of the Turkish people in defending their democracy during a critical moment in the nation’s history.

Tarar recalled that ten years ago, the Turkish population stood resolutely against a terrorist group that attempted to overthrow the democratically elected government. He emphasized that the determination of the Turkish nation remained unshaken by any force, highlighting that unity is essential for nations to overcome adversity and achieve significant accomplishments.

The minister paid homage to the 250 individuals who lost their lives during the failed coup attempt, recognizing their sacrifice in safeguarding Turkey’s democratic institutions. He further underscored the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Turkey, noting that both countries have consistently supported each other through challenging times, with their historic bond growing stronger across generations.

Expressing optimism about the future, Tarar stated that bilateral relations between Islamabad and Ankara are poised to expand further. He pointed out that Turkey’s advancements as an economic and defense power have enhanced its global stature. Additionally, Tarar acknowledged Turkey’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Turkey moving forward.

Meanwhile, Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Neziroglu highlighted that the failed coup targeted critical state institutions, including the Presidential Complex. He described Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day as a powerful reminder of the nation’s solidarity, resilience, and resolve to uphold democratic values.
