Early Wednesday morning, US projectiles struck a wheat storage silo located in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province, specifically in Hoveyzeh County, Iranian officials. Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor responsible for security and law enforcement in Khuzestan, confirmed the attack targeted a grain storage facility.
In addition to the Hoveyzeh site, another location in the neighboring Dasht-e Azadegan county was also hit during the strike. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from either location so far.
This incident occurs amid a significant escalation of regional tensions, characterized by a series of US military strikes followed by Iranian retaliatory measures. The state broadcaster IRIB reported that the agricultural infrastructure in Hoveyzeh sustained damage during the early hours of Wednesday.
While the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has consistently stated that its operations are aimed solely at military targets associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), local Khuzestan officials have strongly condemned the attack on critical food storage facilities. Provincial authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the full extent of the damage at both affected sites.
