Houthis Target Saudi Abha Airport in Retaliation for Sanaa Strike

In a significant development amid ongoing conflict in Yemen, the Houthi rebel group announced an attack on Saudi Arabia’s Abha airport. This action was reportedly carried out as a direct response to recent airstrikes targeting Sanaa’s international airport, which is controlled by the Houthis. The strike on Abha airport marks a continuation of the tit-for-tat exchanges between the two sides, reflecting the deepening hostilities in the region.

The conflict between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthi movement has persisted since 2015, with both sides frequently targeting critical infrastructure to gain strategic advantage. Airports have become symbolic and tactical targets, as they serve as vital hubs for military and humanitarian operations. The attack on Abha airport underscores the Houthis’ capability and willingness to extend their reach beyond Yemen’s borders.

Meanwhile, the escalation raises concerns about the broader implications for regional security and the safety of civilian populations. The repeated targeting of airports disrupts essential services and complicates efforts to deliver aid to conflict-affected areas. International observers warn that such retaliatory strikes could further destabilize the already fragile situation in Yemen and its neighboring countries.
