Punjab Police Arrest Over 26,000 Drug Dealers in Year-Long Crackdown

Punjab Police have significantly ramped up their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks throughout the province, demonstrating a strong commitment to creating a safer and drug-free environment. Over the course of the current year, law enforcement agencies have made remarkable progress in apprehending individuals involved in narcotics-related crimes and disrupting their operations.

In a detailed report covering the ongoing crackdown, it was revealed that a total of 26,267 drug dealers have been arrested, with 25,243 cases formally registered against them. These figures underscore the scale and intensity of the police campaign aimed at curbing the distribution and consumption of illegal substances across Punjab.

Authorities have also confiscated substantial quantities of various narcotics, including 13,324 kilograms of hashish, 1,251 kilograms of heroin, 870 kilograms of crystal meth (commonly known as ice), 557 kilograms of opium, and over 379,000 liters of illicit liquor. These seizures highlight the extensive reach of drug trafficking networks and the police’s success in intercepting these dangerous substances before they can reach the public.

Focusing on Lahore, the provincial capital, police have arrested 3,746 drug dealers and registered 3,631 cases so far this year. This concentrated effort in urban centers is part of a broader strategy to target hotspots where drug activity is most prevalent. In a significant development, the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued directives to intensify operations, particularly targeting areas in and around educational institutions and hostels, aiming to protect vulnerable youth from the influence of narcotics.
